Funko has announced a new Fisher-Price View-Master Funko Pop! vinyl figure as part of the Funko Pop! Retro Toys series.
Fisher-Price View-Master transformed into a Pop! figure.
The Funko Pop! Retro Toys series contains Funko Pop! vinyl figures of iconic toys and toy characters from the 90s, 80s and earlier and of course the View-Master from Fisher-Price should not be missing from the Funko Pop! series.
The View-Master has a long history, and the device was invented and developed in 1939 by Sawyer’s Photographic Services, based in Portland, Oregon. The View-Master was developed as a special stereoscope, which could display or view stereoscopic three-dimensional images using special round cardboard disks or reels.
The View-Master reels contain stereoscopic pairs of small Kodachrome photographs that, when viewed through the View-Master, create the illusion of three-dimensional scenes.
Introduced at the 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair, the View-Master was originally intended as an alternative to the scenic postcard, and was originally sold in photography stores, stationery stores and scenic gift shops.
But as time went on, the View-Master’s appeal soon spread to other areas and the View-Master reels began to feature less scenic and more child-friendly subjects, such as toys and cartoons, quickly making the View-Master a popular children’s toy.
Sawyer’s was acquired in 1966 and over the years the View-Master has been produced by various companies. The View-Master name lives on and is currently being produced under the Fisher-Price brand name (a Mattel owned company).
Fisher-Price’s View-Master has now received a Funko Pop! makeover and has been transformed into a Funko Pop! vinyl figure. The new Fisher-Price View-Master Funko Pop! vinyl figure is the latest release from the Funko Pop! Retro Toys series.
