Funko has announced a new exclusive Squire Funko Pop! vinyl figure as part of the DC Batman 85th Anniversary collection.
Celebrate the 85th anniversary of DC Comics’ Batman.
Batman is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted on March 30, 1939 in the 27th issue of the comic book Detective Comics.
In the DC Universe continuity, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist and industrialist living in Gotham City.
In Batman’s origin story, he vows revenge on criminals after witnessing the murder of his parents Thomas and Martha as a child, a vendetta tempered by the ideal of justice. He trains himself physically and intellectually, developing a bat-inspired personality and watching the streets of Gotham at night.
Batman received his own spin-off publication, Batman, in 1940 and DC has featured the character in many comic books since then, including comics published under its imprints such as Vertigo and Black Label.
One of the most iconic characters in popular culture, Batman has been listed as one of the greatest superheroes and fictional comic book characters ever created. He is one of the most commercially successful superheroes, and his likeness has been licensed and featured in various media and merchandise sold, including video games and toys.
Batman has been adapted into live-action and animated incarnations, including the 1960s Batman television series, and in several films such as Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012), and The Batman (2022).
2024 marks the 85th anniversary of DC Comics’ Batman and Funko is celebrating with the release of a new collection of DC Batman 85th Anniversary Funko Pop! vinyl collectibles.
In June, Funko announced the first wave of DC Batman 85th Anniversary Funko Pop! vinyl figures, largely inspired by Tim Burton’s iconic 1989 Batman film starring Michael Keaton, as part of the Funko Pop! DC Heroes series.
In June, Funko also released a new DC Batman 85th Anniversary Funko Digital Pop! series, followed by the announcement of a new series of DC Batman 85th Anniversary Funko Bitty Pop! mini-figures in July.
Last week, Funko announced the second wave of five new DC Batman 85th Anniversary Funko Pop! vinyl figures, including Catwoman (Batman Returns), Poison Ivy (Batman & Robin), The Riddler (Metallic) (Batman Forever), The Penguin (Batman Returns) and Fear Gas Batman (Batman Begins) as a Funko Shop Exclusive.
