The Silence of the Lambs (1991) is a psychological horror-thriller film directed by Jonathan Demme, based on Thomas Harris’ 1988 novel.
The film follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (played by Jodie Foster) as she seeks the help of the brilliant yet incarcerated cannibalistic serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (played by Anthony Hopkins), to track down another serial killer, Buffalo Bill.
Praised for its tense atmosphere, complex characters, and stellar performances, particularly Hopkins’ chilling portrayal of Lecter, the film became a cultural phenomenon. It won five major Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
