Gremlins is a 1984 American Black/Horror comedy film directed by Joe Dante, written by Chris Columbus and executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
The story follows a young man named Billy who receives a small furry creature, a Chinese mogwai, from his father for Christmas. Billy is delighted with his new furry pet and calls the mogwai Gizmo.
Gizo as a pet comes with three important house rules: do not expose the mogwai to light, especially sunlight, which will kill it; do not let it come in contact with water; and above all, never feed it after midnight.
Unsurprisingly, the house rules go wrong and Gizo accidentally comes into contact with water, which then spawns other creatures from his back, a more troublesome species led by the aggressive Stripe, named for the tuft of fur on his head.
The classic 1984 film was followed by a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, while a third film, Gremlins 3, is in active development.
Gizmo and the Gremlins have been transformed into Funko Pop! vinyl figures and are part of the Pop! Movies series. The new wave Pop! vinyl figures include four new figures, including a flocked Gizmo variant exclusive to Target.
