Lightyear is an upcoming American computer-animated science-fiction adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
It is a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, serving as an origin story for the fictional test pilot/astronaut who the Buzz Lightyear toy featured in the previous films was based on, presented as a film within a film the characters in Toy Story would watch.
Set in a fictional in-universe, Lightyear chronicles on Buzz Lightyear, who is ready for his first test flight to explore new galaxies so that Star Command can come in peace. As Buzz embarks on new space adventures, he hopes to stop rival Emperor Zurg and his army of robot soldiers from threatening the universe.
Lightyear is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on June 17, 2022.
