Killer Klowns from Outer Space is a 1988 American science fiction horror comedy film written, directed and produced by the Chiodo Brothers.
It is the only film written and directed by the Chiodo Brothers, who also did the practical effects and makeup.
College students Mike Tobacco and Debbie Stone are on a date when they see a strange glowing object crash to Earth just outside their sleepy town of Crescent Cove. The teens investigate and discover a circus tent-like spaceship filled with murderous clown-like aliens known as “Klowns”.
The Killers Klowns from Outer Space invade the small town to capture, kill and harvest its human inhabitants to use as sustenance by drinking their blood.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space was released in the United States on May 27, 1988, and the film is considered a cult classic.
The film’s original title was simply Killer Klowns, but the filmmakers added the words “from Outer Space” to prevent audiences from thinking the film was a slasher film.
