Blue Beetle is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle.
Produced by DC Studios and the Safran Company, and directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, it is intended to be the 14th film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The DCEU is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films and television series produced by DC Studios and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is based on characters that appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The DCEU also includes comic books, short films, novels and video games.
The film follows Jaime Reyes after he graduates from college and returns to his hometown of Palmera City, where he is chosen to become a symbiotic host for the Scarab, an ancient alien biotech relic that gives him a powerful exoskeleton armor, turning him into the superhero Blue Beetle.
Blue Beetle is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 18, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
