Army of Darkness is a 1992 American cult-classic dark fantasy comedy film directed Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell.
The film serves as the third installment in the Evil Dead series, following Evil Dead II (1987).
The story picks up with Ash Williams (Campbell), a hapless S-Mart employee and reluctant hero, who is transported back to the Middle Ages after a magical mishap involving the Necronomicon, a cursed book of the dead.
Stranded in a hostile world, Ash must retrieve the Necronomicon to return to his own time, but his arrogance and recklessness inadvertently unleash an army of the undead, led by his evil doppelgänger, “Evil Ash”.
Blending slapstick humor, over-the-top action, and horror elements, the film is renowned for its witty one-liners, including Ash’s iconic catchphrases like “Groovy” and “Hail to the king, baby.” It also features inventive special effects, quirky characters, and Raimi’s signature dynamic camerawork.
