Funko has announced new Marvel X-Men – Age of Apocalypse Funko Pop! vinyl collectibles inspired by Marvel Comics’ Age of Apocalypse crossover storyline.
The X-Men: The Superhero Team That Revolutionized Comics.
The X-Men, one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic superhero teams, debuted in September 1963 in The X-Men #1.
Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the team was born out of the Silver Age of comics and quickly became a symbol for diversity, social justice, and the struggles of being an outsider.
The X-Men are mutants, individuals born with extraordinary powers due to their genetic mutations.
Under the leadership of Professor Charles Xavier, a powerful telepath who believes in peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants, the team fights to protect a world that often fears and hates them.
Their arch-nemesis, Magneto, a powerful mutant with the ability to control magnetism, represents the opposing viewpoint – he believes that mutants should dominate humanity, fearing persecution.
The original team, often referred to as the “First Class”, consisted of Cyclops, Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), Beast, Iceman, and Angel. However, the series truly gained traction in the 1970s with the introduction of a new, more diverse lineup in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975).
This roster included iconic characters such as Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, marking the X-Men as a global team of heroes.
What sets the X-Men apart is their unique blend of superhero action with socially conscious themes. The series frequently explores issues of prejudice, identity, and the fear of the “other,” drawing parallels with real-world civil rights movements.
Over the decades, the X-Men have become a cultural phenomenon, spawning animated series, movies, and countless spin-off comics. Their rich lore, dynamic characters, and ability to address real-world issues through the lens of superhero storytelling make them a lasting symbol of hope, tolerance, and unity.

The newly announced Marvel X-Men – Age of Apocalypse Funko Pop! vinyl collectibles are inspired by Marvel Comics’ Age of Apocalypse (AoA) crossover storyline.
This epic crossover event reimagined the X-Men universe in a dark, dystopian world where the villain Apocalypse reigns supreme, thanks to a timeline-altering twist caused by the X-Men’s time-traveling nemesis, Legion.
The story begins when Legion, the son of Professor Charles Xavier, travels back in time with the intention of killing Magneto. However, the plan backfires when Xavier sacrifices himself to save Magneto, creating an alternate reality where Xavier never formed the X-Men.
Without the X-Men to oppose him, Apocalypse rises to power and unleashes a reign of terror across the globe.
This altered timeline unfolds over a series of interconnected mini-series, each offering a unique perspective on the dystopian world. The event ran from February to June 1995, starting with X-Men: Alpha and concluding with X-Men: Omega.
Age of Apocalypse left a profound impact on the X-Men mythos. While the original timeline was eventually restored, the AoA universe was revisited multiple times in various Marvel Comics series, and several characters (like Blink and X-Man) became fan favorites, continuing to appear in future stories.
