Lilo & Stitch is a 2002 American animated science fiction comedy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Lilo & Stitch is Disney’s 42th animated feature film.
The story is set in Hawaii and follows Lilo, a quirky young girl who struggles with loneliness after the loss of her parents. She is raised by her older sister, Nani, who faces the pressures of being a guardian.
Lilo adopts a strange blue creature she names Stitch, not knowing that he is actually Experiment 626, an alien genetic experiment created for destruction. Stitch, who initially uses Lilo to evade his captors, slowly learns about family through Lilo’s love and care. This transforms him from a destructive force into a loyal friend.
Themes of family (‘ohana’ in Hawaiian, meaning no one left behind) and belonging run throughout the film, as Lilo, Nani and Stitch form a unique yet heartfelt family unit. The film is notable for its Hawaiian setting, catchy Elvis-inspired soundtrack, and its portrayal of the importance of love and acceptance over fear and prejudice.
