Fantasia is a 1940 animated film produced by Walt Disney and released by Walt Disney Productions.

Fantasia is Disney’s third animated film and consists of eight animated segments set to classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski, seven of which are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Before the advent of sound film, Disney was one of many floundering animation studios. The turnaround began with the cartoon Steamboat Willy (1928) starring Mickey Mouse and sound; Mickey’s voice was that of Walt Disney.

The studio also animated the cartoon series “Silly Symphonies” to music, designed as a comeback role for Mickey Mouse, who had declined in popularity.

But Walt Disney wanted more. He turned his attention to a longer animated film on the music of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (L’apprenti sorcier) by the French composer Paul Dukas. Mickey Mouse was ripe for a makeover, taking on the lead role as a sorcerer’s apprentice unable to control his magical powers.

Fantasia has grown in reputation over the years and is now widely acclaimed; in 1998 the American Film Institute ranked it as the 58th greatest American film in their 100 Years … 100 Movies and the fifth greatest animated film in their 10 Top 10 list.

The first Pop! vinyl figures from the classic Disney film were released by Funko in 2012, including Sorcerer Mickey and Chernabog. Sorcerer Mickey makes more appearances in the Pop! Disney series, including in the separate Pop! Walt Disney Archives line.

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Disney’s Fantasia, Funko has launched an Anniversary Pop! vinyl line, including seven new Pop! vinyl figures.
