Biker Mice from Mars is an American animated television series that originally aired from 1993 to 1996.
Created by Rick Ungar, the show was part of the ’90s wave of anthropomorphic action cartoons that followed the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The series blends science fiction, action, and comedy, following three humanoid mice from Mars who ride motorcycles and fight to protect Earth—specifically Chicago—from alien threats.
The protagonists—Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie—are survivors of a war on Mars devastated by the Plutarkians, a race of greedy, fish-like aliens who plunder planets for natural resources. Escaping to Earth, they discover that the Plutarkians, led by the villainous Lawrence Limburger, are attempting the same exploitation on Earth.
Teaming up with Charley Davidson, a skilled female mechanic, the trio uses their Martian tech and custom bikes to battle Limburger and his cronies like Greasepit and Dr. Karbunkle.
Each mouse brings something unique: Throttle, the cool-headed leader; Modo, the strong but gentle giant with a bionic arm; and Vinnie, the reckless hotshot with half a face mask and a huge ego. Their chemistry, rebellious attitude, and loyalty to each other drive the show’s humor and emotional core.
The show stood out for its anti-corporate themes, environmental undertones, and heavy rock influence. Though it never reached TMNT-level fame, it carved out a cult following, especially in Europe. A 2006 reboot updated the animation and storyline but kept the core spirit intact.
In 2025, Biker Mice from Mars is set to make a major comeback. Oni Press will launch a brand-new ongoing comic series starting June 25, 2025, written by Melissa Flores and illustrated by Daniel Gete. This reboot will dive into the Mice’s origins and their war with the Plutarkians before arriving on Earth.
Additionally, a new animated series is in development, co-produced by Ryan Reynolds and his company Maximum Effort, promising a modernized take on the classic franchise. A fresh toy line is also in the works, spearheaded by the Nacelle Company as part of their broader revival strategy.
Whether you remember them from Saturday mornings or are just discovering them now, the Biker Mice are back—with new stories, new style, and the same badass attitude that made them icons.
