Funko has announced a new Funko Pop! Spock Comic Cover figure based on Star Trek #1, which was published by Gold Key Comics in 1967.
Gold Key Comics Star Trek #1 transformed into Pop! vinyl.
The Star Trek comic book series is part of the Star Trek media franchise, which began with the eponymous 1960s television series and quickly became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon.
Gold Key Comics, also known as Whitman Comics, published the first Star Trek comics between 1967 and 1979 and the comics were stylized and deviated from the TV series continuity.
The Gold Key series had a run of 61 issues and in most issues the crew members, except Spock, wore lime green uniforms.
Gold Key lost the Star Trek license to Marvel Comics in 1979, and Marvel’s series of Star Trek comics began in 1979 with an adaptation of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and continued for another two years.
Over the years, several publishers, including DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Malibu and IDW Publishing, have released Star Trek comic series based on the various Star Trek movies and television series.
Star Trek #1, the first Star Trek comic published by Gold Key Comics in 1967, has received a Funko Pop! makeover and is the latest release of the Funko Pop! vinyl Comic Covers series.
