Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a 1964 Christmas stop motion animated television special produced by Videocraft International, Ltd. (later known as Rankin/Bass Productions).

It first aired December 6, 1964, on the NBC television network in the United States and was sponsored by General Electric under the umbrella title of The General Electric Fantasy Hour.

The television special is based on the 1949 song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” by Johnny Marks, which itself is based on the 1939 poem of the same name by Marks’ brother-in-law, Robert L. May.

It tells the story of Rudolph, a young red-nosed reindeer, who, after being expelled from the reindeer games because of his shiny nose, teams up with Hermey, an elf who wants to be a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the prospector. After escaping the Abominable Snow Monster, the three of them land on the island of Misfit Toys.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer airs multiple times during the Christmas and holiday season and has aired every year since 1964, making it the longest-running Christmas TV special in the United States.

Characters from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer have been transformed into Funko Pop! vinyl figures and are part of the Funko Pop! Movies series. The newly announced wave includes seven new Funko Pop! vinyl figures, including an Amazon exclusive flocked version of Rudolph.
