Funko has announced two new 8-Bit Funko Pop! Rides figures inspired by the strategy video game series The Oregon Trail.
The Oregon Trail Oxen & Wagon 8-Bit Pop! Rides figures.
The Oregon Trail is an educational strategy video game developed and published by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC).
The game was developed in 1971 as a computer game to teach school children about the realities of 19th century pioneer life on the Oregon Trail.
In the game, the player takes on the role of a wagon leader who guides a group of settlers from Independence, Missouri, to Oregon City, Oregon via a covered wagon in 1847. Along the way, the player must purchase supplies, hunt for food, and make choices about how to proceed along the trail, all while encountering random events such as storms and vehicle breakdowns.
The original versions of the game, from 1971 onwards, were text-based and did not contain graphics, as they were developed for computers that used teleprinters instead of computer monitors.
After the rise of microcomputers in the 1970s, the MECC released several versions of the game over the next decade for the Apple II, Atari 8-bit computers, and Commodore 64 computers, before redesigning it as a graphical commercial game for the Apple II under the same name in 1985.
After the initial Apple II release in 1985, The Oregon Trail was ported to several other platforms by MECC.
Funko has transformed the iconic oxen and wagon from The Oregon Trail video game series into an 8-Bit Funko Pop! Rides figure. In addition to the common Oxen and Wagon Funko Pop! Rides figure, Funko has announced an exclusive green and black variant as a Funko Shop Exclusive.
The Oregon Trail Oxen and Wagon (8-Bit) Funko Pop! Rides figures are part of the Funko Pop! Rides series.
