How to Train Your Dragon is an upcoming American fantasy film written, co-produced, and directed by Dean DeBlois.
It is a live-action remake of the 2010 animated film by DreamWorks Animation, which itself was loosely based on the 2003 first novel in the book series by Cressida Cowell.
The story follows Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (played by Mason Thames), a young Viking from the island of Berk, where dragons are feared and hunted. Unlike the rest of his people, Hiccup struggles to fit into the warrior culture of his village, led by his father, Stoick the Vast (reprised by Gerard Butler).
Everything changes when he encounters Toothless, a rare and powerful Night Fury dragon. Instead of killing Toothless, Hiccup befriends him, discovering that dragons are not the dangerous creatures they were believed to be.
With the help of Astrid Hofferson (played by Nico Parker), Hiccup embarks on a journey that challenges the traditions of his people and reshapes their world.
With breathtaking visuals, action-packed sequences, and emotional depth, How to Train Your Dragon aims to captivate both longtime fans and a new generation, offering a fresh take on this timeless adventure.
How to Train Your Dragon is set to be released theatrically by Universal Pictures in the United States on June 13, 2025.
