Last year, the series was expanded with a large number of new figures. It was also the time for Michael Jordan to shine and no less than ten new Pop! vinyl figures of His Airness were released.
New vinyl figures were added to the Pop! NBA Basketball series at the beginning of this month. Six legendary basketball players from the past have been transformed into Funko Pop! vinyl figures. The new figures have been released under the special Hardwood Classics (HWC) line within the series.
The first two new Pop! vinyl figures are rivals, friends and legends Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Bostin Celtics vs Los Angeles Lakers and both players are clearly recognizable by their iconic jersey numbers.
In addition to Boston and Los Angeles, Seattle, home of Funko’s headquarters in the US, also contributes to the HWC line. Pop! vinyl figures of two legendary Seattle SuperSonics players, Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton, have been released and added to the Pop! vinyl line.
The last two star players, who appear in the Hardwood Classics line, both played for the Orlando Magic. Both Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal and Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway have been transformed into Pop! vinyl figures and are now available in the Funko Pop! vinyl NBA Basketball series.
