This year Disney is celebrating the 65th anniversary of Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. 65 years ago, on July 17, 1955, Disneyland officially opened its doors.
Funko celebrates Disneyland Resort’s 65th Anniversary.
Disneyland Resort is temporarily closed to the public due to the corona virus. All festivities, including commemorative merchandise of the 65th anniversary takes place online.
Funko joins the festivities and has released a special Pop! vinyl line in honor of Disneyland Resort’s 65th anniversary. The Pop! vinyl Disneyland 65th Anniversary collection will be released in several waves, with the first Pop! vinyl figures scheduled for October.
The upcoming Pop! vinyl Disneyland 65th Anniversary collection is a mix of different Pop! vinyl figures, all with a direct link to attractions found in Disneyland.
The first stop is the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction. Two Pop! vinyl figures of Mickey and Donald dressed in lederhosen are the start of the new upcoming Pop! vinyl Disney line.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction has previously appeared in the Funko Pop! Rides series, where the Abominable Snowman and Mickey Mouse were depicted in the Disney attraction. This time it’s the turn of Donald Duck, who will be released in the Pop! Rides series along with the Matterhorn Bobsled ride.
The next Disneyland attraction that Funko turns into Pop! vinyl is Dumbo The Flying Elephant, a carousel style ride based on the famous little elephant. Minnie Mouse flying with Dumbo is a new release in the Pop! Rides series. The official Funko Shop will be releasing a special edition of a purple Dumbo figure, which will be released in the Pop! Disney series.
The second wave of the Pop! vinyl Disneyland 65th Anniversary collection will be released around November/December of this year.
Two new releases of Disney attractions in the Pop! Rides series, Mr. Toad at the Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride Attraction and Peter Pan at the Peter Pan’s Flight Attraction. In addition to the new Pop! Rides releases, separate Pop! vinyl figures of Mr. Toad, Peter Pan and Captain Hook will be released.
Three special edition Pop! vinyl figures will be released around Alice In Wonderland and the Mad Tea Party attraction. Pop! vinyl figures of Alice and Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter at the Mad Tea Party Attraction, in the Pop! Rides series, will be released by Target.
Funko pays special tribute to the Casey Jr. Circus Train attraction found in Disneyland, a ride-on miniature railway attraction based on the train of the same name from the classic Disney animated movie Dumbo. The Disney train has been transformed into Pop! vinyl and will be released in six different parts. Donald Duck leads the train in the locomotive, followed by five different train cars including Disney characters.
Disney’s Casey Jr. Circus Train attraction will be released in the newly launched Funko Pop! Trains series.
The Funko Pop! Disneyland 65th Anniversary collection is incomplete without the Sleeping Beauty Castle. The famous Sleeping Beauty Castle is an iconic symbol of The Walt Disney Company and a real eye-catcher in any Disneyland park.
Every Disney fan and probably many Funko Funatics will be thrilled with the two new releases in the Pop! Town series, Sleeping Beauty Castle and Mickey Mouse and Sleeping Beauty Castle and Walt Disney, which is exclusive to Disney.
