A year after his passing, Funko honors pioneering rapper, producer and beatboxer Biz Markie, as the latest release in the Funko Pop! Rocks series.

Biz Markie transformed into a Funko Pop! vinyl figure.

Marcel Theo Hall (April 8, 1964 – July 16, 2021), known professionally as Biz Markie, was an American rapper, DJ, producer and beatboxer and was best known for his 1989 single “Just a Friend”, which became a Top 40 hit in several countries.

Over the course of five albums, Biz Markie developed his own style like no other rapper at the time: a mix of half-sung (and intentionally out of tune) choruses, riveting beatboxing and wacky humor that earned him the nickname the “Clown Prince of Hip Hop” and paved the way for gloriously bizarre rappers like Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Biz Markie’s debut single, the 1986 Marley Marl-produced “Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz” showcased the “human beatbox” skills that would become a trademark throughout Markie’s career.

In 2002, Markie appeared in Men in Black II, with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, playing an alien parody of himself, whose native language sounded exactly like beatboxing.

The Harlem-born, Long Island–raised MC was a member of the legendary Juice Crew, the Queensbridge collective assembled by DJ Mr. Magic and Marley Marl, and featuring fellow rappers like Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace, Craig G, Roxanne Shante, and Kool G Rap.

Biz Markie died in July 2021 at the age of 57, due to serious complications from type 2 diabetes.

Funko honors the Hip Hop pioneer with a Funko Pop! makeover and the Pop! Biz Markie figure is part of the Pop! Rocks series.
