Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, dancer and philanthropist.
He has been referred to as the “King of Pop” and is considered one of the most important cultural figures of the 20th century. Over a four-decade career, his contributions to music, dance, and fashion, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture.
The eighth child of the Jackson family, Michael Jackson made his public debut in 1964 with his older brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon, as a member of The Jackson 5 (later known as the Jacksons).
Michael Jackson began his solo career in 1971 with Motown Records and released his debut studio album Got to Be There in 1972, while still a member of The Jackson 5.
In 1975, Jackson signed with Epic Records and released his fifth studio album Off the Wall in 1979, which became Jackson’s big breakthrough. Off The Wall made Jackson the first solo artist to have four singles from the same album peak in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album was certified 9× Platinum by the RIAA and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.
The King of Pop released a total of 10 official studio albums, 3 soundtrack albums, 1 live album and 40+ compilation albums and 8 remix albums.
Jackson is one of the best-selling music artists in history with over 1 billion records sold worldwide and according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Jackson has sold 89 million certified albums in the United States, making him the sixth best-selling album artist in the country.
The King of Pop has been transformed into Funko Pop! vinyl and is part of the Pop! Rocks series. Michael Jackson is an old acquaintance of the Funko Pop! Rocks series and was one of the first artists to be released as a Pop! vinyl figure in the series.
Funko honors the King of Pop with a new Pop! vinyl makeover and with the release of two new Michael Jackson Funko Pop! collectibles. A new Michael Jackson Funko Pop! Rocks figure, inspired by the music video for the 1988 song Smooth Criminal, featuring Jackson dressed in a white suit with matching fedora, performing his famous anti-gravity lean dance move.
