George Clinton transformed into a Funko Pop! vinyl figure

George Edward Clinton (born July 22, 1941) is an American singer, bandleader, songwriter and record producer.

His music collective Parliament-Funkadelic (which primarily recorded under the distinct funk band names Parliament and Funkadelic) developed an influential and eclectic form of funk music during the 1970s, based on Afrofuturism, bizarre fashion, psychedelia and surreal humor. George Clinton also launched his solo career with the 1982 album “Computer Games”.

The sound of George Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic became the main inspiration for the West Coast hip-hop subgenre G-funk in the 1990s.

Parliament was an funk band formed in the late 1960s by George Clinton as a flagship act of his P-Funk collective. Evolving out of an earlier vocal group, Parliament became associated with a more commercial and less rock-oriented sound than its sister act Funkadelic.

Funkadelic was formed in 1968 and active until 1982, and the funk band was initially formed as a backing band for Clinton’s vocal group The Parliaments (later the full-fledged band Parliament), but eventually pursued a heavier, psychedelic rock-oriented sound in their own recordings.

George Clinton is regarded, along with James Brown and Sly Stone, as one of the foremost innovators of funk music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, alongside 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. In 2019, he and Parliament-Funkadelic were given Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Funko honors George Clinton with a Funko Pop! makeover and the release of a new Funko Pop! vinyl figure. The new George “Uncle Sam” Clinton Funko Pop! vinyl figure is inspired by the cover of “Uncle Jam Wants You”, Funkadelic’s eleventh studio album released in 1979. The cover depicts George Clinton in a Huey Newton-Black Panthers pose.

The new George “Uncle Sam” Clinton Funko Pop! vinyl figure is part of the Funko Pop! Rocks series and has a February 2024 release date.
